Theme: Developing media: what strategies for financial and technological resilience and innovative content?
The global media landscape is at a critical crossroads. In Africa, broadcasters face interconnected challenges including economic pressure, declining financial resources, rapid technological change and growing competition from global information companies.
Traditional financing models based on advertising and public subsidies are weakening. At the same time, digital transformation requires substantial investment in infrastructure, media literacy and professional training, resources that many African media organisations still lack.
The growing presence of foreign media platforms also puts pressure on local broadcasters and risks weakening Africa’s ability to tell its own stories and promote its cultural identities.
The African Union of Broadcasting therefore calls for a new paradigm based on technology, diversified platforms and stronger adaptation to changing audience habits. Artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, 5G, streaming, podcasts and social networks are among the tools that can support this transformation.
General objective. The 16th AUB General Assembly aims to define and promote innovative strategies to strengthen the financial and technological resilience of African media and improve the quality and relevance of content.
Main themes: financial resilience and new business models; technological resilience and the future of broadcasting; innovative content responding to the needs of audiences, youth, diversity and gender equality.
The Assembly targets media directors-general, public authorities, experts, academics, content creators, professional associations and strategic partners.
